Legacy Collection: Kingston Wall
Legacy Collection: Kingston Wall
On December 5th,1994, Kingston Wall played their last public gig with the original line-up. The brief but intense spark that transformed the entire country’s music scene for good had run its course. But, even as the world – and the lives within – change, some things carry on. Three decades later, Kingston Wall’s music is still as relevant as ever, and whole new generations have found the band. That calls for celebration.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Kingston Wall’s final act, the remaining two founding members of the band, Jukka Jylli and Sami Kuoppamäki, are throwing a full-on celebration of Kingston Wall’s music in the Helsinki Ice Hall.
Having grown up with the band’s music, we wouldn’t have missed this opportunity for anything. To pay tribute to the massive impact Kingston Wall has had on so many lives, we will launch the Legacy Collection: Kingston Wall line-up. The super-limited collection will be available on Thursday the 21st of November at our Flagship Store, Makia Oulu, and makia.com – and at the band’s Ice Hall concert on December 5th.
A continuation to our previous Kingston Wall collection, the unisex collection features a jacket, a cardigan, a long sleeve, a T-shirt, and three beanies, all finished with imagery inspired by the uniquely psychedelic world of Kingston Wall. Part of the Legacy Collection: Kingston Wall drop’s profits are donated to charity – namely, to the mental health advocacy group Mieli Ry and the rehabilitating arts program at the Sörnäinen Prison. As a nod to the collection’s charitable aspect, the Wall Long Sleeve and Wall T-Shirt's print features a design inspired by the cover art of the Kingston Wall I. However, in these items, the wall seen on the album’s cover art is replaced by the wall of the Sörnäinen Prison.
In case you’re wondering about what the Sörnäinen Prison has to do with Kingston Wall, there’s something you should know about the gig after the band’s final public performance. The actual farewell took place on the 6th of December. That’s a story for the band to tell:
"30 years ago, the original band's final show on December 6th,1994, was not at a public venue, as it was played for the inmates at Sörnäinen Prison. The memory of this unique event has stayed with us for all these years, which is why we wanted to end this run of shows there as well, on the exact day from 30 years ago.
With this performance and the profits from Makia's drop, we hope to remind everyone about the importance and support of arts everywhere and help out the arts program at Sörnäinen Prison.
Peace, love, and Kingston Wall."
